Editing & Proofreading

Needing a little or a lot of help? You've come to the right person.

NON-FICTION is my area of experience

"Line editing, or grammar editing, remains important, regardless of genre or style. Fiction, however, has elements such as plot and characterization that need to be examined. Nonfiction elements include organization and clarity." ~ Author Learning Centre

Developmental editing

  • Have an idea but it's still in its infancy? In a coaching role, I will work with you to clarify your goals and bring structure and organization to your project.
  • When you're seeking assistance with creating or updating a website, deciding on-site hierarchy, blog categories and overall voice and tone is something we can work on together. My experience includes knowledge of SEO and user interface design (UI) as a former project manager in the software industry and experience in public relations/marketing.
  • Undecided about an idea for a business book and don't t know where to begin? Together we can break down the topic into digestible chunks making it much easier for you to tackle and succeed.

Line editing

  • Think of line editing as a line-by-line review, instead of an overall manuscript critique. During the line editing process, I look for flow, tone and clarity, and will highlight problems such as run-on sentences, clichés and pacing.
  • Although punctuation and grammar are not the focus of a line edit, I often will do both at the same time. Usually, however, it's still necessary to have copy editing after a line edit.

Copy editing

  • As a copy editor, I am reviewing content for punctuation, grammar, spelling and the project’s unique style or rules specific to your project and/or the publication to which you plan on submitting.

Proofreading

  • In some respect, this could be considered the same as copy editing. The term refers to the hard-copy process where a “proof” — a test print of a book or other print publication that has been laid out, including graphics etc. — is given a final review before the project goes to print. This is best done after you've worked with a professional format specialist.
  • The proofreading stage is your last chance to catch any misplaced apostrophes, typos and missing serial commas before your project is published.
  • While proofreading, I am also watching for layout issues such as unintentional extra spaces, missing bylines or incorrectly numbered pages.

Her ability to clarify key points definitely made the book better.

"I had the pleasure of working with Tamelynda on my newly released book, Influential Rapport, Influence and Persuade in Work, Life, and Leisure. Tamelynda brought an incredible amount of insight and perspective to the book and really helped focus areas that might otherwise have been confusing to the reader. Her ability to clarify key points definitely made the book better.
I would highly recommend engaging Tamelynda on your next project as every author needs a third party view to really help bring the book to life." ~ James Seeto author of Influential Rapport, Influence and Persuade in Work, Life and Leisure (Amazon) and The 5 Keys To Hypnotic Selling.

By providing "fresh eyes" she helped to resolve numerous errors I was overlooking.

"As a new and inexperienced author in the process of writing a textbook for a very niche audience, I needed support and guidance to ensure that my book would be a high-quality product ready for publishing.  Tamelynda Lux’s guidance throughout the editing process was an invaluable learning experience that has already improved my writing skills.  By providing “fresh eyes,” she helped to resolve numerous errors I was overlooking.  Her feedback helped me to communicate my message more clearly.  I would recommend Tamelynda’s editing services to any serious writer about turning out a professional product.  I plan to employ her services again in the future." ~ Wendie Webber author of The Devil’s Therapy: Hypnosis Practitioner’s Essential Guide to Effective Regression Hypnotherapy (Amazon)

She kept my voice and improved my writing . . .

"Tamelynda is professional and very good at her work.  Grammar tends to be one of my weaknesses and a big reason I held back from writing.   Tamelynda was able to provide for me just what I needed.  She kept my voice and improved my writing while giving extremely helpful feedback.  She is also very patient as I was new to this process and she was kind enough to guide me through it.  I plan on using her for my next book!
" ~ Becky Kronske author of You Are Your Soulmate: Choosing to love and accept all parts of yourself (Amazon)
